Acting chief judge of Kebbi State, Elizabeth Karatu, whose tenure this month, was yesterday, stopped by a court security operative from performing her last duty. Elizabeth Karatu a few months ago, alleged that the state government denied her being confirmed as the chief judge because she was a Christian. The state government and lawmakers in Kebbi State House of Assembly repeatedly denied the allegation.

They had accused Karatu of being in possession of seemingly doctored documents regarding her birth and age. She thereafter petitioned the National Judicial Council, NJC over the state’s governor, Atiku Bagudu’s refusal to confirm her as the substantive judge of the state because of her religious affiliation.

Karatu was appointed by Bagudu on October 30, 2017, following the retirement of Bala Mairiga. He recommended her to the state house of assembly as a replacement for Mairiga but the lawmakers were said to have refused to confirm her appointment over alleged falsification of her primary school certificate.
