Now in its 23rd year, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards, a ceremony that recognizes the best performances in both motion pictures and television, held  in the early hours of Monday January 30th at the  Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium. Unlike other awards ceremony, the SAGs usually doesn’t have a host, rather relying heavily on the on its star-studded ensemble of presenters to carry the show.

The awards ceremony which saw a few African Americans carting home the top awards didn’t waste time getting political as presenters and award recipients aired their protest against President Trump’s executive order to ban some Muslim countries, refugees and immigrants from coming into the  country.

The executive order was also a point of protest on the red carpet with actors wearing safety pins in solidarity with refugees while some had solidarity signs written across their chest and carrying placards.
