Wealthy businessman, Scott Tommey just like his billionaire counterpart, Aliko Dangote, has reiterated his apolitical status in the country in spite of being named as one of the Advisory Council of the President Muhammadu Buhari campaign team. Scott Tommey was named in the President Buhari’s advisory team constituted by his wife, Aisha. He was named alongside some popular Nigerians including Col. Hameed Ali (Rtd), IGP Suleiman Abba (Rtd), General Buba Marwa, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, Professor Pat Utomi, Prince Tonye Princewill, Festus Keyamo (SAN) and Muiz Banire (SAN).

But in a statement signed by his media aide, Femi Ajayi, the oil magnate, said he was honoured by the appointment but added that he would rather remain apolitical. The brief statement read, “It has become pertinent to clarify the status of Mr Scott Tommey, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Osmoserve Global Limited, named into the Advisory Council of President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign team. While Mr Tommey is honoured to have been considered for this appointment, he feels obliged to let the public know that he is not into partisan politics neither is he a card-carrying member of the APC.”

The advisory committee was one of the committees listed in the APC ‘Presidential Campaign Council.’ The naming of the two businessmen was condemned by many Nigerians including the main opposition party, PDP.

Perhaps due to an outcry from Dangote, media adviser to the president, Femi Adesina was forced to explain the status of Aliko Dangote.
“It has become imperative to further clarify the status of Alhaji Aliko Dangote, named under the sub-head ADVISORY MEMBERS in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council announced on Friday, December 28, 2018. Africa’s richest man, not being a card-carrying member of APC, cannot, and is not member of the PCC. He is also a member of the Peace Committee, and thus cannot be in a partisan campaign council,” Mr Adesina said.

The spokesperson did not explain why the advisory committee was listed as part of the PCC or whether his exemption of Mr Dangote also applies to the other six members of the advisory committee.
