Scarlett Johansson has over taken fellow actress, Emma Stone to emerge the highest paid actress in Hollywood, pocketing $40.5 million in pretax earnings between June 1, 2017 and June 1, 2018, according to Forbes. Playing ‘Black Widow’ in Marvel’s Avengers movies has become a lucrative role for Johansson, who quadruples her 2017 earnings. She’ll return onscreen for the fourth installment of the superhero conglomerate series in 2019.

Coming in second is actress, producer and director, Angelina Jolie who pockets $28million. She returns to the rank thanks largely to her upfront pay for ‘Maleficent’ 2. Jennifer Aniston peaks at number 3 with $19.5million coming largely from endorsements such as Emirates airlines, Smartwater and Aveeno as well as earnings from the remake of ‘Friends’. Jennifer Lawrence is at number four with $18million movie earnings from ‘Big Little Lies’, ‘Mother’, ‘Red Sparrow’, ‘X-Men’ series and a high paying Dior contract.

Reese Witherspoon is at number five with $16.5million pay check, all thanks to her role on the forthcoming ‘Apple’ series for which she will receive an estimated $1. 25 million per episode. Others on the list are Mila Kunis at number six with $16million, Julia Roberts at number seven with $13million with earnings from older movies and a Lancome endorsement.

Australian actress, Cate Blanchett at number eight pockets $12.5million, comic actress, Melissa McCarthy is at number nine with $12million while new comer on the list, Israeli born Gal Godot is at number 10 with $10million, all from her earnings from being the lead actress for ‘Wonder Woman’ coupled with a Revlon endorsement.

Notably absent on the list are Amy adams, Emma Watson, Charlize Theron and last year’s top-ranked Emma Stone who all failed to earn above the $10million cut off for this year’s list and dropped off the ranking.
