The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, Mr. Adeleye Oyebade, has said that the Nigeria Police Force has dismissed the police officer, Corporal Iroh Orji who shot two officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps in the Owerrinta area of the Aba/Port Harcourt Expressway two weeks ago. Orji had, while intervening in a disagreement involving the wife of the Speaker, Abia State House of Assembly, Mr. Chikwendu Kalu, shot the officers who stopped the car in which the speaker’s wife was travelling with her aides.

Oyebade condemned the act, saying the command had taken appropriate action against the police officer.
He said, “I have been an apostle of policing with the fear of God. The action of the corporal is condemnable and unacceptable. I will just say he is not one of us because he has been shown the way out and dismissed from the force. Any police officer that wants to use his firearm should know when to use it. If a police officer wants to use his firearm, he must use it in an action he can defend and when it is authorised and justified.

“The police work together with other sister security agencies in the state. We hold meetings and road shows together. We share information vertically and horizontally and we are still on the same page. So, I wouldn’t want this incident to bring bad blood among us.”
