Two days after the Federal Ministry of Health raised a red flag over Olamide’s viral hit song, ‘Wo’ via twitter, saying that it contravened the country’s law on tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship, the song has been finally banned by National Broadcasting Corporation, NBC.

The health ministry had insisted that the song promotes smoking which they believe is dangerous to the health of millions of Nigerians with health risks ranging from cancers, respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, despite the fact that the ministry was confronted by Nigerians with the relevant section of the constitution where it explicitly stated that smoking could be portrayed for artistic purposes. And so via NBC, the song got pulled off from airwaves.

The NBC did not only ban ‘Wo’ by the YBNL boss, Olamide, the parastatal went on to ban another of his hit single, ‘Wavy level’ as well as DMW boss, Davido’s songs, ‘Fall’ and ‘If’ and also ‘Living Things’ by 9ice

Recall that a few months ago, Falz became a subject of controversy when he was duly criticized by many who felt he had no business condemning any singer’s lyrics. Falz had admonished his colleagues to desist from glorifying fraudsters with their songs as it doesn’t portray them as good role models. Many had thought he was referring to 9ice whose song, ‘Living Things’ subtly talked about fraud. The indigenous singer however debunked the claim that he was glorifying fraudsters.
