Controversial singer, Azeez Fashola, more popularly known as Naira Marley, was on Thursday, August 6, taken to the Lagos State Special Offences Court in Ikeja.

The police had filed charges against him for violating the COVID-19 directive banning interstate travels put in place to curtail the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

Recall that Naira Marley flew in a chartered plane appointed for a Lagos Judge to the Federal Capital Territory for a concert on Saturday, July 13. The drive-in concert took place at the Jabi Lake Mall.

According to reports, the Inspector-General of Police ordered Naira Marley’s arrest. The Lagos Police Command spokesman, Bala Elkana, confirmed that the singer appeared in court, after presenting himself at the Command Headquarters on Thursday.
“He was arraigned along side his manager, Seyi Awonuga on a one-count charge of ”breach of the cessation of movement and interstates travel order made by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under Regulation 4(i) of the Lagos State Infectious Disease Emergency Prevention) Regulation No 2 of 2020 and committed an offence punishable under Section 58 Public Health Law, Ch. P16, Laws of Lagos State 2015.

When the charge was read to them, Naira Marley and his manager pleaded guilty and were awarded a fine of two hundred thousand naira each by the presiding Magistrate.
