With the 2019 general elections just around the corner, quite a number of contenders are jostling to be the ones to make sure that the President Muhammadu Buhari who has since being named the  APC flag bearer in the 2019 presidential election, is given the boot and sent packing from Aso Rock. But IvoryNG has narrowed the list to just the top eight contenders. Here below are the contenders:

PDP: Atiku Abubakar
Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is the flag bearer for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which he clinched at the presidential primary election held in Port Harcourt. He polled 1532 votes against the 693 votes won by Aminu Tambuwal who came second and Bukola Saraki who came third with 317 votes.

SDP: Donald Duke
Former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, emerged the Presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the 2019 general election. Duke polled 812 votes to defeat his close rival, former Minister of Information, Prof. Jerry Gana, who polled 611 votes at the party’s National Convention held at Old Parade Ground, Abuja.

ACPN: Oby Ezekwesili
Former Minister of Education and co-founder of the ‘Bring Back Our Girls’ movement, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, has picked the presidential ticket of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria, ACPN, to contest the February 2019 election. The former World Bank Vice-President emerged as the party’s candidate at the party’s national convention held in Abuja, on Sunday. The two-time minister and activist, whose nomination was ratified, received the party’s flag from the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Ganiyu Galadima, whose tenure was also renewed at the event.

ANN: Fela Durotoye
Motivational speaker, Fela Durotoye is the presidential candidate of the Alliance for New Nigeria, ANN. Fela Durotoye was until recently, the elected consensus candidate of the Presidential Aspirants Coming Together (PACT) coalition to contest in the 2019 presidential election. Those involved in the coalition include: Kingsley Moghalu, Yele Sowore, Dr Thomas-Wilson Ikubese, Ahmed Buhari, Tope Fasua, Sina Fagbenro-Byron, Eragbe Anslem, Jaye Gaskia, Mathias Tsado, Victor Ani-Laju, Alistair Soyode, Godstime Sidney Iroabuchi, Clement Jimbo, and Elishama Ideh.

YPP Kingsley Moghalu
A former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Prof. Kingsley Moghalu is the presidential candidate of the Young Progressive Party, YPP. A former UN officer, Kingsley was one of the aspirants who formed the Presidential Aspirants Coming Together (PACT) coalition to contest in the 2019 presidential election. He however pulled out of the PACT  following Fela Durotoye’s emergence as the consensus candidate. Moghalu scored 243 votes out of 253 accredited delegates, after his only opponent, Mr Donald Igwegbu, stepped down for him.

AAC: Omoyele Sowore
Omoyele Sowore emerged the presidential flag-bearer of the African Action Congress, AAC, unopposed  for the 2019 general election. This was announced on Saturday at the AAC national convention, held at Duplex Plaza, CMD, Shangisha, Lagos.

PPN: Hamza Al Mustapha
A former Chief Security Officer to the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, has emerged the presidential candidate of the Peoples Party of Nigeria, PPN. He polled 3,564,262 votes to beat Dr Imuetinyan Igbinnosa and Chief Isiaka Olorunnimbe, who scored 2,183,856 and 1,400,755 votes, respectively.

ZLP: Olusegun Mimiko
Former Ondo State governor, Olusegun Mimiko is the presidential candidate of Zenith Labour Party, ZLP for the 2019 general election. Mimiko was elected as a consensus candidate by members of the party in Abuja at its national convention.
