Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayo Fayose, has called on Nigerians to reject the All Progressives Congress’ committee on restructuring, describing it as a complete ruse and dead on arrival. In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, Fayose, who is also the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum, said that the APC’s restructuring committee was unnecessary since Nigerians had already spoken in favour of it.

Fayose said, “This APC distraction is meant to deceive Nigerians one more time. Nigerians must unequivocally reject it. They have deceived us enough and we must not allow them to deceive us again.
“APC and its government at the centre have failed on all fronts and have not delivered on their promises to the electorate. They have lived in denial and have spent the last two years either blaming everyone else but themselves for their cluelessness or repudiating their election promises.

“Whereas they promised restructuring in their party manifesto, they have come out openly to deny this obvious fact. So, who does not know that their so-called committee is an ingenious attempt to deceive and sweep the raging storm over restructuring under the carpet? Nigerians have spoken clearly and unambiguously that they want restructuring without delay. Delay is dangerous. Nigerians have said they want restructuring now; no hanky-panky and no pulling of the wool over our eyes.

“Rather than this time-buying committee, the APC government should make haste to respect the overwhelming views of Nigerians on restructuring. The 2014 Political Conference Report is there; they should swallow their vain pride and revisit it, he said.”

Recall that ruling party, APC earlier in the week set up a committee, headed by Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, to come up with the ruling party’s definition of restructuring. Others in the 10-member committee include the governors of Osun State, Rauf Arebegsola;  Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano), and Simon Lalong (Plateau). Other members are Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun;  a former governor of Edo State, Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor; the APC National Organising Secretary, Senator Osita Izunaso; the National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi; Hajia Fatima Bala while Senator Olubunmi Adetumbi will serve as the committee’s secretary.

According to the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the APC’s restructuring committee is not a committee to set up modalities for restructuring. “We have realised for some time now that when people talk about restructuring, we are no longer sure if they are talking about the same thing. People have said that the APC promised restructuring. So, we need to sit down as a party to develop a shared understanding of what we mean by restructuring in our manifesto. Which is why we set up the APC’s restructuring committee. This committee is mainly to define exactly what the APC means by restructuring so that every member will know what exactly we mean. It is not a committee to set up modalities for restructuring.”
