Popular entertainer and convener of #OurMumuDonDo, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, alongside his cohorts on Monday stormed the Head Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in Abuja to begin their daily protest to demand Diezani’s repatriation. Diezani Allison-Madueke was a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, who served under former President Goodluck Jonathan. She is being investigated for a series of multi-billion dollar fraud and money laundering offences in Nigeria, the United Kingdom and America.

A court in Nigeria has ordered the forfeiture of some properties linked to the former minister which are believed to have been acquired with stolen wealth. Diezani’s associates and co-conspirators, Kola Aluko and Jide Omokore, have also been linked to corrupt practices worth billions of dollars. According to the protesters, it is improper for the Government to be seizing cash and properties worth billions of naira from the former minister,  without applying for Diezani’s repatriation to Nigeria to face punishment for her alleged crimes.

Meanwhile the Chairman, Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to ignore Charly Boy’s protest for Diezani’s repatriation saying the protesters had ulterior motives. The senior advocate said Charly Boy and his ilk knew that the judicial system in Nigeria was weak and could easily escape justice and that was why they did not want Diezani to be tried in London.

Sagay said, “Their demand is not only unrealistic but it is not even being done in good faith. These people are hostile to the anti-corruption struggle and are hoping that if Diezani is brought here, there will be difficulty in getting her convicted.”
