Aisha Alhassan, former minister for Women Affairs and famously known as Mama Taraba has been disqualified from running for the governorship seat of the state by the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress. Her disqualification was made known today in a statement listing all the governorship aspirants taking part in the direct and indirect primaries of the party on Friday. She was disqualified by the screening committee of the NWC. No reason was stated.

Aisha Alhassan had been the party’s governorship candidate in Taraba State during the 2015 general elections. The former minister last year generated controversy in 2017 when a video of her visit to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar who was then in the APC went viral. In the video, she said she would support former vice-president Atiku Abubakar in a leadership race against Buhari because Atiku is her godfather.

Also disqualified were Chief Osiobe Eric Okotie in Delta state and Barr. Ejikeme Ugwu in Enugu state.
